Coney Island

Hello everyone!

This is my first post in 2016. How time flies! It's already 14 days into the new year!

Before we begin this post proper, let me just share some of my New Year's Resolutions here. :)

1. Put more effort into this blog! The reason of why I decided to start this blog was to create a space for me to post my photos, and to document my life. I can say I quite like writing, but over the years I've neglected my interest in it. So hopefully in 2016, this blog will evolve to include not only photos in the posts, but also more thoughtful writings, and maybe some of my random musings and even short stories or poetry? HAHAHA I'm not too sure about the stories and poetry part, but let's see what will happen :)

2. Start on a new photo project! Currently I'm thinking of a 12-month project, posting 1 photo every month. Through this project, I hope to further stretch my creativity, my photography techniques and my knowledge in post-processing. This project will definitely involve more conceptual photography, which is something I enjoy doing and miss doing terribly. I've already came out with many many ideas, and I'm very excited to execute those ideas and share the final products. :)

All right, now for what's related to the title of this post!

So after what seemed like an eternity, I finally visited Coney Island!

Coney Island, also known as Pulau Serangoon, is a 50 ha island located off the northeastern coast. I've seen many photos posted by the others and I was really excited to visit it myself, seeing how rustic and nature-y it looks. For an urban dweller like me, a nature-y place is much appreciated for a getaway from the concrete jungle.

Juliana, Min Hui, Xin Hui and I rented bicycles from Punggol Promenade. I wanted to get the mountain bikes, as they looked way sturdier (and speedier) than those "city bikes". But we eventually got the "city bikes", as the mountain bikes were too tall for us HAHAHA. The silver lining was that the "city bikes" were pretty photogenic, with those woven baskets and green frames, as you can see below.

When we first entered the park, we were greeted with the lush greenery, the tall canopies and the dense undergrowth. Other than the dirt paths, the place is left pretty much in its original state. Which is rare to find in Singapore.

We cycled, stopping way-too-frequently to take photos. As it was late in the afternoon, the golden sunlight casted such a gorgeous tone on all the plants. And the sun was low enough to create some dreamy lens flare in my photos. However, as predicted, the "city bikes" were no good for the rugged terrain. The next time I'm there, I might consider just going on foot, or find a mountain bike which isn't too high for me /inserts laugh cry emoji/

All right, here are the photos taken from that day:

(Okay so this photo the focus isn't on the bikes but I'm still post it before I like the photo sigh)
"Look into the distance" as directed by Xin Hui. Clearly I'm not good at the "gazing into the distance" pose.

Photo taken by Xin Hui :)
Min Hui!
Juliana!

Xin Hui! And things photographers do to get the right shots - climbing into bushes HAHAHA

Loved the lighting sooo much.

Juliana intensely staring at the ground before her HAHAHA

"Let's use a prop."
"I have The Economist!"

The "Dance Pose"
The colours are so amazing asdfghjkl.
I was told to look cool/candid. Hence Xin Hui reminded me of Juliana's initials: Y Y Chong. And I burst out laughing.

It was golden!

Look at that mini lobster!
People looking for more marine creatures at the beach at Punggol Jetty :)

Thank you Juliana for sneakily taking this "behind-the-scene" photo HAHAHA
And that's all for this post. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Till the next time,
Elsa
