Strangers

This post has been sitting in my drafts for a while, as I am too lazy (as usual) to come up with some words to go along with the photos.

Anyway.

Street photography is something that I think is super cool and fun and interesting, however I've never really done anything like that before. Because I feel uncomfortable pointing the camera at strangers and taking photos of them. Like, what if I get punched in the face because I seem like a creep?

So after (sorta) overcoming that psychological barrier, I am slowly venturing deeper into that aspect of photography. Here are some photos I've taken over the past few weeks. I know some of them aren't exact "street photographs", but I thought I kinda like them so I shall still post them here. :)

The Camera Family: New addition!

Hello everyone!

As you probably can tell from the title of this post, yes, I've added something new to my Camera Family!

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this, but basically my Camera Family (gosh it sounds rather silly) consists of what I use to take photos with, namely:
  • Canon 650D with the 18-55mm kit lens and the 50mm f1.8, which I use to take fancier photos;
  • Fujifilm Instax Mini 25 (which is something really fun to play with 'cuz you get to see the photo taken immediately); and lastly
  • iPhone 6 (woo hoo for iPhoneography!)
I've been wanting to shoot on 35mm film for the longest time ever. Probably the influence of Tumblr, along with Flickr. And since I'm a 90s kid (though not exactly a kid any more), my childhood was documented with a film camera. Hence...drum roll please...

TADA! Introducing my newest addition to the Camera Family!

This is a Ricoh LX-25, and it is probably the same age, or even older than me. Although this is only a film compact camera, I'm really excited to use it. I'm currently shooting with a roll of Fujifilm Superia 200, and I've taken 8 photos already! Can't wait to finish the roll and develop the photos hehehe.

One may ask why I am shooting film (moreover on a compact camera). Yes, it is true that the effects of film can be emulated by the post-processing software. However, I feel that the process of waiting to finish a roll of film and for the photos to be developed, is the fun part. The wait adds so much excitement and anticipation, which is something digital photography cannot offer (since we can view the images straight away after they're taken). Plus, I think this is a good introduction into 35mm film for me. In the future, I hope to be able to shoot on a film SLR. :)

And that's it for this short post!

See you guys on this space again soon,

June in Pixels (Part 2)

Hey everyone! :)

Here's Part 2 of June in Pixels! To see Part 1 of this mini-series, click here!

Marina Bay
Sometimes I love how my family can be so spontaneous, as we only decided to head out after dinner while we were eating dinner at home. So as we walked towards the Float, I was surprised as the floating platform has been converted into a football pitch! And some people were playing football at that moment! I think this is such an amazing experience for the players - playing this beautiful game against a beautiful backdrop. Also, Baybeat, a music festival/event was taking place at Marina Bay. I love the atmosphere, as everyone stood around to watch the local bands' performances.

Shoutout to my mom for always being my best model hehehe.

And here are some gifs I've made because...well I like them and I like making them.

And here are just some random photos I've taken over the holidays. (HAHAHA this is such a awkward and sudden jump from the previous section but I like these photos so I shall share them :)

And that's the very end of this mini-series! Hope you've enjoyed reading it hahaha.

Beijing

Well, before I even begin this post, I would like to just say that this is 2 years late.

I travelled to Beijing in 2013, with my dad. I planned to do a post back then, but school got in the way. And somehow, I felt that my photos were meh (read: mediocre and boring). Hence, these photos have been lying in my external drive since then, untouched, and unedited.

Yesterday night, as I was feeling frustrated while studying for Chemistry (yeah, my previous post wasn't true. My Mid-Years only officially ended today), I decided to look through these old photos. And I was amazed, as I was able to find a few gems amongst the pile of rocks. (My geography teachers would beg to differ though, as they see beauty in granites, limestone, etc. I do love rocks too. After all, I'm a geography student. :)

It's interesting how when you look at things from a different perspective, with a different mood and focus in mind, you're able to find the beauty in them that you've previously missed out. I just wished that I had been able to pick out these beauties when I was still back in Beijing, 2 years ago.

This will not be a recount of my trip to Beijing, and it will be merely a photo gallery sort of thing, with the quintessential things of Beijing, some touristy shots, as well as the nature found outside the central city. I've carefully selected and edited all the photos individually, and I hope you'll like them as much as I do. :)

P.S. I'm still working on the Part 2 of my June in Pixels post! Stay tuned for it as it'll be up very, very soon. :)
P.S.S. I have just purchased something super cool (photography related, of course) and I'm so excited to use it and to share it (or them?) with you guys on this space!!! :)
