Culture Galore: Joo Chiat and Chinatown

Hey guys!

I noticed that this blog lacks current affairs. Current affairs about me. Meaning, all the recent posts are actually about stuff that are not recent at all. Hence I looked through my folders and folders of photos and realised...hey. My life hasn't been all about school and there are actually things that are blog-able!

At the end of January, I attended a street photography workshop. The location was based in Joo Chiat, and I had a great (albeit short) time walking (or rather, rushing) around Joo Chiat. There were many interesting architecture, and I will definitely go back and spend more time there photographing.

The whole stretch of street was filled with these houses!

So pretty gahh.
Really loving the blue!

Isn't this the cutest house?

White wall with peeling paint with green plants. It's a yes from me.

As we were leaving Marine Parade Community Centre, we decided to head to the open roof. And we caught the sunset/blue hour! The blue tone in the photos was so pretty! And with the strong wind and our windswept hair, we felt pretty Tumblr. Though Juliana would say otherwise but yeah.

And a week ago, I went to Chinatown with my school's photography club to do some night photography. The crowd was terrifying on a Friday night, especially since it was nearing Chinese New Year. It was rather challenging, just like the other night shoots as I had to shoot in full manual. And I challenged myself to using the 50mm only, unless I was shooting the cityscape. Nevertheless, it was rather enjoyable. We even found a vantage point to have a good view of Chinatown!

My fellow photographers!

Goat!
Hawthorn Sticks!

Taking photos like this using a 50mm on a cropped censor all by yourself aka risking dislocating my arm

And that's it for this post! Hope you guys will have a wonderful day/night, wherever you are!

China 2014: Day 5 (Wuyishan)

First of all, Happy Chinese New Year to everyone who celebrates it!

Apologies for not updating this blog regularly, and I am going to use school as a reason/excuse for my absence once again. Since I get a short break from school now, I shall continue my slightly overdue blog post.

Wuyishan is known for its mountains and beautiful landscape. On that very day where loads of walking and climbing was involved, the sun was out, and the weather was really hot. I was burning in my sweater...note to self: always check the weather forecast!

Again, I'm not sure why the photos appear redder and more orange on here...they looked fine when I was editing them! :( Now I shall let the photos do the talking. (Because I am lazy to type and honestly speaking, after more than 2 months, my memory of the trip isn't the clearest now :O)

Wuyi Palace.
My grandpa! Featuring my grandma in the background :D

The front of Dawang (Prince) Peak
Such an autumnal scene!

Yunu (Lady) Peak
Was feeding the fish and look at that fish opening its mouth!

Chinese characters carved onto the rocks.

The back view of Dawang Peak. Looks less majestic, eh?

Jiuqu Stream! This river has 9 major bending, and hence it's named Nine Bends Stream.

And I began my ascend up the most famous (and scenic trail) up the Tianyou Peak!

Lens flare lens flare lens flare! Though it's not the best but hey it's lens flare after all!

Postcard view of Wuyishan, right here!

Continuing my ascend up to the highest point...the steps were getting steeper and steeper.

Legend has it that the fairies used to dry their fabrics on this piece of rock (which is Tianyou Peak itself), hence leaving this streaky pattern down the rock :)

Love the golden glow!

The sun set, a while later.
And that's it for this post! I'm coming to the end of this travel posts series really soon...so stay tuned!

Elsa :)
