First roll of film!

Hey guys!

I am sooo excited to be finally able to share this very first roll of film I've taken! I started this roll last July, and since there are only 36 shots (edit: there are actually only 35 shots...someone enlightens me on why), and every shot is precious, I only finished it in February this year. I took so long to finish the roll to the point that I couldn't even remember what I've taken on it HAHAHA.

The photos are mainly landscape and cityscape shots, since I'm surrounded by skyscrapers and stuff. I am so in love with the richness of colours. And I love how every photo has it's own unique tones and colours. Especially with the light leaks, spots and grains, they further give every photo its unique "identity", in a way.

The photos below are shot on a Fuji Superia 200. Seeing how interesting the photos turned out, I'll definitely be shooting more film in the future. Hopefully on a film SLR though!

And, here are some things I've learnt from shooting this roll:

• Point-and-shoot film cameras don't work well in backlight conditions. The photos just turned out really dark. Hence, rely on your DSLR if you're looking for some photo with a dramatic lighting or some yummy lens flare.
• There will be distortion, especially if you're taking photos of buildings with horizontal lines.
• Also, the shop which processes your film will actually twitch the exposure, contrast and colour of your photos when they print them out. Hence, always remember to ask for the unedited versions! (Thanks Juliana for telling me this. Now you know why the colours of the photos you send for printing always turn out slightly different from your digital copies :P)

Anyway. Here are the photos! Some are terribly underexposed or overexposed, while there are a few shots which are quite similar. Also, pardon the quality of these photos, as I scanned them using my own scanner and painstakingly cropped each and every one of them.

And here's the end of this post. Now I shall go back to the long and tedious university applications and stuff.

Tiong Bahru

Tiong Bahru - a quaint and quiet place, perhaps due to intermittent rain and the fact that it was a Wednesday afternoon. Despite being one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore, Tiong Bahru is quite a hipster place, with art galleries, bookstores and many, many cafes.

Xin Hui and I decided to explore this unfamiliar territory (as I like to name any place that I haven't been to). There are soooo many cafes to choose from, and we finally decided to have our lunch at Forty Hands. Thankfully the rain stopped after we stepped out of the cafe, and we took photos of the back alleys of Tiong Bahru. And also I gave in to my sweet tooth and had a lemon meringue tart.

Also I was probably having sort of an "off-day" that day, where my brain just decided to be sub-functional, as I forgot my good old nifty-fifty and my camera battery ran out pretty soon (bless the spare battery). Nevertheless, it was a great afternoon with great food to fill our tummies, as well as looking at those retro-looking buildings :)

Lunch at Forty Hands. The Eggs Benedict were gooooood, while the truffle fries were pretty normal tasting in my opinion.

Stumbled upon BooksActually. Love the whole vibes of the place, and I held back my impulse to buy many books heh. Also, they have a cat inside! How cute :)

Some sort of Community Garden aka you have your own garden where you can plant as many plants as you want. Goals? Yes totally.

And that's it for this short post. Finding time to meet up with friends certainly isn't easy nowadays, as we all have taken on part-time jobs which require us to work late into the night, hence scheduling wise is quite difficult. Anyway. Since I'm digressing from what I've said above, let me digress even more. I'll be getting back my A Levels results next Friday!!! How nerve-wrecking, though I've been staying rather calm. Maybe the nerves will really hit me as the day comes closer. All right. Really ending the post now :)
